Audi

Audi is an automotive brand associated with Germany. Its commonly cited modern founding or brand-launch year is 1909, and its headquarters or principal operating base is in Ingolstadt, Bavaria. Understanding that background is important because some names began as independent companies, while others were created later as specialist marques within larger automotive groups. Engineer August Horch founded Audi Automobilwerke in Zwickau in 1909 after leaving his earlier company. In 1932 Audi joined Horch, DKW and Wanderer to form Auto Union, represented by the four-ring emblem. Volkswagen acquired the business in the 1960s, and the modern Audi identity emerged from Auto Union and NSU. Audi is famous for quattro all-wheel drive, aerodynamic design, rally success, understated luxury and technology-led interiors. It has developed from a German engineering marque into a globally recognised premium manufacturer.
