BYD

BYD is an automotive brand associated with China. Its commonly cited modern founding or brand-launch year is 2003, and its headquarters or principal operating base is in Shenzhen, Guangdong. Understanding that background is important because some names began as independent companies, while others were created later as specialist marques within larger automotive groups. BYD Auto was established in 2003 after battery company BYD acquired the Qinchuan Automobile business. The parent company had been founded in 1995 by Wang Chuanfu and built expertise in rechargeable batteries before applying that knowledge to cars. BYD grew from a domestic automaker into a major global new-energy vehicle manufacturer. It is known for vertical integration, in-house batteries, electric motors, power electronics and the Blade Battery, as well as large-scale production of electric buses and passenger vehicles.
