Saudi Arabia Recalls 2,987 Jeep Grand Cherokees Over Side Airbag Software Fault: How to Check Your VIN

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Commerce has recalled 2,987 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L SUVs from the 2023 and 2024 model years. A software fault in the occupant restraint controller (ORC) could delay the side airbags from deploying in a crash, which raises the risk of injury. The fix is a software update, and it costs owners nothing.

How to check if your Grand Cherokee is affected

  1. Find your vehicle identification number (VIN). It is the 17-character code printed on your vehicle registration card and usually visible at the base of the windscreen on the driver's side.
  2. Enter the VIN on Recalls.sa, the national platform for defective product recalls.
  3. If your vehicle is included, call Petromin Stellantis on the toll-free number 8003030040 to book the software update.
  4. Keep a record of the work once it is done, as it will help when you sell the car.

Why a delay matters

Side airbags have very little time to work. In a side impact there is only a short distance between the door and the people inside, so the airbags need to inflate almost instantly to cushion the head and body. A software fault that delays them reduces that protection, which is why the recall covers every affected vehicle, even if the car feels completely normal to drive.

What owners in Saudi Arabia should do now

1Do not wait for a letter. Check your VIN yourself today. It takes a few minutes.
2Bought used? Check anyway. A recall is linked to the vehicle, not the first owner, so a second-hand 2023 or 2024 Grand Cherokee may still need the update.
3Grand Cherokee L owners: the three-row version is included, so check it too.
4Watch the dashboard. If the airbag warning light comes on at any time, have the car inspected. Our car warning lights guide explains what each symbol means.
5Do not pay. The update is free of charge, so you should not be billed for it.

Bottom line

If you drive a 2023 or 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee or Grand Cherokee L in Saudi Arabia, check your VIN on Recalls.sa and book the free software update if your car is listed.
