What is new on the Thar OG
| 1 | Platform and ride: the M_Glyde 4G platform, rear PENTALINK suspension with a Watts link, DAVINCI damping, and electric power steering in place of the old hydraulic set-up. The ZXT adds frequency dependent damping. |
|---|---|
| 2 | Off-road kit: an electronic locking differential and Mud, Sand and Snow terrain modes on 4WD LXT and ZXT versions. |
| 3 | Engines: 2.0 mStallion turbo-petrol with 119 kW and 330 Nm, 2.2 mHawk diesel with 111.9 kW and 330 Nm, and the unchanged 1.5 CRDe diesel with 87.2 kW and 300 Nm. |
| 4 | Design: a new grille, revised bumpers with a wider track, new LED tail-lamps and two new colours, Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue. The ZXT gets new LED headlamps with C-shaped DRLs, LED fog lamps with cornering lamps and 19-inch alloys. |
| 5 | Cabin: Truffle Brown leatherette upholstery and a soft second-row armrest with a cupholder. |
Safety depends on the trim
ESP with rollover mitigation is standard. The AXT and LXT keep dual airbags and front disc, rear drum brakes. Six airbags, including four head, pelvis, thorax and shoulder (HPTS) airbags, plus all-wheel disc brakes, tyre-pressure monitoring, a rear-view camera and front parking sensors are reserved for the ZXT.
What buyers in India should check
| 1 | Get your expected delivery date in writing. The introductory prices cover deliveries until 30 November only. |
|---|---|
| 2 | Decide whether you need 4WD. Terrain modes and the locking differential come only with 4WD LXT and ZXT versions. |
| 3 | If six airbags and rear disc brakes matter to you, budget for the ZXT. |
| 4 | Compare running costs using today's fuel prices in India, as the range spans petrol and diesel. |
Bottom line
The Thar OG keeps its boxy three-door character and starting price while adding a new platform, better ride hardware and more power from the 2.2 diesel and 2.0 turbo-petrol. Lock in a delivery date before 30 November if you want the introductory price. For other deals this month, see our India car offers after 10 October and follow the CarVoltX blog.
