Suzuki has climbed to second place among Japan's carmakers by global sales for the April to September 2026 period, behind only Toyota. A year earlier, Suzuki sat in fourth place. The move puts it ahead of both Honda and Nissan, according to figures published by the manufacturers themselves.
Record Half-Year for Suzuki
In its global sales update dated 29 October 2026, Suzuki reported worldwide sales of 1,824,006 units for April to September 2026. That is an increase of 19.9% and a record for the April to September period.
Key figures from Suzuki:
Global sales: 1,824,006 units (+19.9%, record for Apr-Sep)
Overseas sales: 1,469,966 units (+26%, record)
India sales: 1,100,260 units (+35.4%, record)
Japan sales: 354,040 units (-0.3%)
India Drives the Growth
India remains the engine of Suzuki's success. With 1,100,260 units sold in the six months, India alone accounted for about 60% of the brand's global total (1,100,260 of 1,824,006), and its 35.4% growth was the biggest single contributor to the record result. Overseas markets as a whole also set a new high, while sales in Japan were broadly flat.
How Honda and Nissan Compare
Over the same April to September period:
Honda: 1,661,569 units globally (-4%)
Nissan: 1,355,233 units globally (-11.8%)
With Suzuki growing strongly while both rivals declined, the ranking among Japan's carmakers by global sales now reads:
1. Toyota
2. Suzuki
3. Honda
4. Nissan
What It Means
Suzuki's rise shows how much weight compact, affordable cars and fast-growing markets such as India now carry in the global industry. For buyers in Pakistan, where Suzuki is a household name, the result underlines the strength of a brand that continues to focus on practical, value-led models.
