BYD says its local manufacturing plant in Pakistan is "nearing its launch in the second half of 2026", and that it is in talks with its local partner, Mega Motor Company (MMC), about bringing its Mega Flash ultra-fast charging technology to Pakistani customers. Liu Xueliang, Vice President of BYD Co., Ltd. and head of its Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division, made the comments to BR Research, in an interview published on 9 October 2026. The plant figures are on record. The charging plan is still at the discussion stage.
Key facts
| 1 | Plant status: the project is nearing its launch in the second half of 2026, according to BYD. |
|---|---|
| 2 | Capacity: 25,000 units per annum, scalable to 50,000 units per annum. |
| 3 | Global footprint: BYD describes it as its sixth facility outside China. |
| 4 | Jobs: expected to generate more than 1,100 jobs. |
| 5 | Emissions: BYD estimates the plant will help avoid about 165,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions by 2034. |
| 6 | Sales so far: BYD entered Pakistan in 2024, delivered its first vehicles in February 2025 and says it has delivered more than 10,000 vehicles in less than 18 months. |
| 7 | Charging: BYD and MMC are discussing how Mega Flash Charging could eventually be introduced in Pakistan. |
What is Mega Flash Charging?
According to Liu, Mega Flash Charging is powered by BYD's second-generation Blade Battery, and its main advantage is a significant cut in charging time. He said the technology is designed for next-generation vehicles built on the new battery platform. Existing BYD vehicles will remain compatible with the charging infrastructure, although charging speeds will vary.
BYD did not give any charging speed, charging time, station count or rollout date for Pakistan. Figures from other markets are not a guide to local hardware or grid supply, so none are given here.
What BYD says about the plant
Liu credited MMC as the first local partner to set up a dedicated NEV assembly facility in Pakistan. He said more details will be shared in due course, and that a consistent, long-term policy framework could help Pakistan develop into a regional manufacturing and export base for new energy vehicles. That export point is a stated ambition, not an announced plan.
What it means for Pakistan buyers
The most useful line for shoppers is about compatibility. BYD says today's models will work with the new charging infrastructure, but at varying speeds. A car you buy now should not be treated as a Mega Flash car unless BYD or MMC confirms that in writing for that model.
Local assembly could, over time, affect supply and parts availability. BYD has not said which models the plant will build or whether locally assembled cars will be priced differently, so it is too early to delay or rush a purchase on that basis alone.
If you are weighing a BYD now, check the current listings for the BYD Atto 3, BYD Seal and BYD Shark 6, or browse the full BYD lineup in Pakistan. The EV charging time tool can help you plan around the chargers you can actually use today.
What is still unknown
| 1 | Charging speeds, charging times or power ratings for Mega Flash in Pakistan. |
|---|---|
| 2 | Any timeline for introducing the charging technology locally. BYD says it depends on infrastructure readiness, discussions with relevant stakeholders and future product planning. |
| 3 | Station locations, numbers and charging tariffs. |
| 4 | Which next-generation models, if any, would come to Pakistan with the new battery platform. |
| 5 | Which models the local plant will assemble, an exact start date, and any effect on prices. |
What buyers should check
| 1 | Ask the dealer in writing which charging standards and maximum charging rates apply to your exact variant. |
|---|---|
| 2 | Do not accept verbal claims that a current model will support Mega Flash charging. BYD has only said existing cars stay compatible at varying speeds. |
| 3 | Get a dated written quotation and run it through the on-road cost tool before paying a booking amount. |
Bottom line
BYD has put clear numbers on its Pakistan plant: 25,000 units a year, scalable to 50,000, more than 1,100 jobs and a launch window in the second half of 2026. Mega Flash Charging is a conversation, not a commitment, with no speeds, dates or prices for Pakistan yet. Wait for an official announcement from BYD or MMC before treating it as part of an ownership plan, and use Compare to line up current models in the meantime. More updates are on the CarvoltX blog.
